Kanye’s inaugural comedy show, which will feature local comedy heavyweights such as Gaborone-based Rib Cracker, Mawee of Gabane and Kasane’s Vhalloyd is billed for June 1 at Kogae Café.

The show is the starting point of a tour intended to promote comedy outside the city, as shows will also be held in other places among them Jwaneng and Molepolole.

“We have decided to take the show to people outside Gaborone as a way of promoting comedy as an art to make it more popular. A lot of people see comedians only on TV so we want to take them to the communities,” said Kagiso Otukile, who is organising the show.

Through the show, he said they also intended to provide a refreshing exercise, especially for workers to enhance their mental health.

He noted that the event line-up would mostly be comedy, save for a few DJ slots adding that upcoming local comedians would also be featured.

He said comedy was mostly given small slots compared to other entertainment genres and therefore they wanted to popularise it. 

“The ultimate plan is to make this a monthly event, so we are piloting with from others so that eventually locals can take over. This will eventually provide alternative entertainment besides alcohol which people mostly use to refresh,” he said.

He said the monthly shows would also help upcoming comedians gain recognition within their localities and beyond.

He noted that they were marketing ther show through social media and other platforms, adding that they were also in consultations with organisations and companies as they were also targeting workers. ENDS
