Kanye to host Inaugural winter night market
09 May 2019
The first ever Winter Night Market which will provide an opportunity for jewelry makers, visual artists, clothing designers and food preserving businesses to showcase their skills will be held at Motse Lodge in Kanye on June 1.
In an interview, one of the organisers Colleen Bapege said the initiative was a brainchild of five young people in Kanye who wanted to bring together designers, makers and creatives together to market their skills and products as well as form a community of creatives.
“We are excluding re-sellers because we only want to target people who make things from scratch. The market for such designers is small in Kanye and they do not have such a platform as compared to their counterparts in urban areas such as Gaborone,” she said.
Furthermore, she said they intended to bring creative minds together to share experiences and explore possible partnerships as well as enhance mentorship for upcoming artists. She said their hope was for upcoming designers to draw inspiration from well-established ones through sharing of experiences and skills.
She said the stalls were also categorised according the business scale, with small, established and corporate business stalls going for P100, P500 and P1 000 respectively.
Bapege said they chose to do the event at night because they wanted something that was unique and would appeal more to the youth.
“We wanted something that would be exciting to the youth hence there will be entertainment alongside the night market. We are currently in the process of soliciting live performance for the night and our preference will be local artists,” she said. ENDS
