St Bernadette relives Passion of Christ

A sizeable number of Christians, mostly from the Roman Catholic sect, gathered at Kgale Hill to witness the drama depicting events that led to Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s death.
The dramatic presentation commonly referred to as the Passion play in religious parlance originates in the ritual of the Catholic Church.
It is a dramatic portrayal of what has been called the greatest story ever told.
Disloyalty, prejudice, sacrifice, redemption and a startling ending were crammed together in a play that took Christians down an emotional memory lane in the sleepy Kgale Hill terrains.
The drama depicts the Passion of Christ, which includes the trial, suffering, and death of Jesus Christ.
In an interview on the sidelines of the emotionally charged enactment, Kenanao Rakgano, chairperson of the Catholic Church Gaborone Youth Diocese, said as the church youth, they had committed their lives to serving God who saved them through the death of his only begotten son.
She said the Passion play was an annual event that enacted the toiling that Jesus endured on his road to Calvary.
“Jesus died for our sins.
We are remembering his sufferings.
He fell under the cross several times and that reflects our own sufferings in life that despite life’s challenges we should remember that Jesus had the strength to rise again,” she added.
She said evangelising the journey Jesus Christ took through dramatisation was to depict the sufferings Jesus Christ went through.
The drama was done by the St Bernadette Catholic Parish youth from Gaborone West.
Careful thought and lively humour was neatly curved out in a play that began with the trial of Christ, which was marked with shouting and heckling of Christ by those who brought him before King Pilate.
The choir broke into spiritual hymns as the play was narrated and the actors engaged into short dialogues.
The event, which was part of the church’s annual Easter holidays commemoration, had attracted many to the usually quite Kgale Siding Hill. ENDS
