Francistown will on March 16 witness the launch of the first ever Queen of Francistown pageant at CRACKit Tuition Centre.
Project coordinator and the brainchild behind the pageant, Alpha Nchenje, said an interview that the project was a token of his appreciation to the city of Francistown. He said the city had molded him to be the person he was today.
Nchenje, who was a presenter for My Star music talent show, said about 41 people would participate in a show to be held under the theme: Real queens fix each other’s crowns for a better Francistown.
All participants will be Francistowners from various wards that make up the city.
“The pageant will promote African culture and contestants will showcase a mixture of both modern and the African way of living through set activities,” he said.
He also said through the initiative girls would be groomed and encouraged to be the best they could be, as they would be equipped with the necessary social skills.
Nchenje explained that the girls would battle it out in three categories namely Queen of Francistown, Princess of Francistown, and Little Princess of Francistown.
He said his mission was to unleash raw talent right from primary school; hence the pageant took on board adolescents.
The pageant, he said, would also give an opportunity to those who wanted to venture into the modeling industry and become brand ambassadors for their respective wards.
However, residents of the city of ‘all things precious’ will have to wait for the grand finale set for the May 2019 when the queens will be crowned. ENDS
