HanC continues to shines

04 Feb 2019

When South Africa’s hit maker, Prince Kaybee tweeted recently on the amazing talent that is HanC, Batswana were excited and heaped the young lad with more praises.

HanC, born Hanceford Magapatona was not surprised as Prince Kaybee had at some time conversed with him about a collaboration before the tweet.

HanC explained that his confirmation video for Vee’s show, singing Rejection song was the that caught Prince Kabyee’s attention.

“In the morning, he sent a message on Instagram saying he saw the video and he proposed that we could work together as he was charmed by the voice,” HanC said.

Thereafter, HanC said a tweet from Prince Kaybee followed appreciating Botswana talent.

Though not surprised at the tweet as they have initially talked, HanC said it meant a lot being appreciated publicly on social media.

He said it shows that other musicians from across the borders do appreciate and recognise local talent.

At the Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs) on February 2, the 25-year-old walked away with People’s Choice award, a second in two consecutive years; proving that he is indeed everyone’s favourite.

Coming from a musical background, HanC was inspired and encouraged by his family, which drew him to the showbiz world.

Although his family did not chose this route, he always knew that this is what he wanted to do with his life.

He has released hits such as Mogolokwane, Modimo o teng, Se Ilen among others.

The soft spoken artiste, who chooses to be unconventional in his artistic expression, is sure set to be a trail blazer.

When working on his creative process, HanC explained that he chooses concepts that relate to everyone and has impact on people.

His music is loved by all and is comforting to the soul, both lyrical and instrumental.

“When I write my music I do not normally do it in straight forward. I use everyday words that some might not expect to be used in a song,” said HanC citing ‘kgaa kgaa’ lyrics from the smash hit Rejection.

He said he tries to make his lyrics interesting and meaningful to people.

That together with his conspicuous voice, is what set him apart from others and make him admirable to all.

South Africa’s Ringo Madlingozi once said the success of an artiste lies in them using their native language.

When he broke into the local scene with Sedi Laka, working with Dj Chrispin The Drummer and Team Distant, his lyrical and vocal prowess came into play; presenting his passion of local vernacular and use of Setswana idioms in song talking about life experiences.

His early years saw him learn how to play a piano and he also played ground My African Dream stage, where he reached the finals.

And the spotlight of television is what prepared him mostly for his journey now. Performing at his hometown, Mahalapye is one of his favorite places to showcase his artistic flair.

“The love and support I receive back home is amazingly overwhelming,” quipped Hanc saying everytime the atmosphere just changes.

The people of Mahalapye hold him high and treat him like an international act he is becoming.

His advice to aspiring artistes is to do more with their lives, saying if they put their minds in their work things could actually work wonders for them.

HanC has worked with renowned musicians like Dj Kuchi on Rejection, Stoan Seate of Bongo Muffin on Mogolokwane, Berrybone on Mafurafura, Dj NT Base on Moengele, Golden Year with Dj Izzy, Amantle Brown, Sasa Klaas and Dramaboi and many others.

He has been awarded best new comer and best dance at the third YAMAs, Best New artist at Mahalapye Youth awards. ENDS
