In an interview, Baxon said he is a Motswako/ HipHop recording artist based in Rasesa.

He said motswako is a fusion of Setswana and a bit of English so that gives him an advantage to reaching a wider audience.

He said he signed with Rock The City Music and co-own a registered record label called Drop Hitz Studio located in Rasesa where he also record his music.

Baxon’s love for music started when he was at secondary school, saying that ‘it was only music that could free me from boredom thus I slowly developed love for it.’

He said being a uneployed Limkokwing Television and Film graduate also drove him to follow his passion and pursue music.

So far, he said he has worked with renowned artists like Ati, Noello,Judek, Crack and others who taught him that music business is not as easy as people may think. He said rather it requires sacrifice, patience and passion.

“Music will test you, break you and it is one frustrating line of work, so if you doing it for the wrong reasons you will not make it,” Baxon explained.

Baxon said he credits social media for his art is well known all over the country.

He said he reaches wider audience as far as Kasane without having to take his music to radio stations.

He said like other businesses, music industry is not immune to challenges saying most of their recording clients are based in Gaborone so they often complain about the distance they travel to their studio forcing them to relocate to the city soon.

The young artist said times have changed and in this era, music is mostly sold online but Batswana are still reluctant to buy and prefer to get it for free.

He also said most promoters are not artists adding that they are still having people who are unprofessional and failing to pay artists for their services.

Baxon said some even go to an extent of undermining local talent and content.

He emphasized that it is important to write down a contract before confirming a booking, so one can take legal action and claim when they are owed. He said despite all the challenges they encounter, he still makes money through shows, tours and the studio services he offers to sustain himself.

His advice to the young musicians is that they not chase fame, instead they should work hard and build relations with established artists. ENDS
