MYSC prepares for art competitions

13 Jan 2019

Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development programmes officer in Bobonong, Matlhomola Kebifetswe says this year’s constituency art competitions will be held on January 26-27.

Kebifetswe told artistes in Bobonong recently that this year they would also change how they paid performing artistes to avoid complaints due to late payments.

He said in the previous art competitions, artistes were unhappy about the system of payment, which has forced them to initiate a strategy to address the issue.

He said payments would be made on time if artistes could submit all the necessary documents on time.

As one way of dealing with indiscipline among artistes, Kebifetswe said artistes would be required to always be in the competition room to watch other groups performing, adding that failure to cooperate could lead to penalties.

He urged all traditional dance groups to abide by the constituency rules and regulations.

Kebifetswe said the competition would move from village to village to appreciate those who recognise the importance of the competitions.

He also urged all performing groups to register for this year’s President’s Day art competitions.

One of the participants, Amantle Talampe encouraged artistes to produce quality art pieces, adding that in the current job opportunities scarcity, performing arts could sustain people and diversify the economy.

Talampe said it was crucial for artistes to take performing arts seriously and as a career and source of income. ENDS
