Two Batswana land roles on Muvhango

Maxwell Dichi and Sharon Seno are set to appear on one of South Africa’s popular soapies, Muvhango, after successfully making it through auditions.
Speaking at a press briefing on January 9, acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo said he was happy that the actors had made the cut in a soapie that was popular in Botswana.
He said he was hopeful that the duo would eventually graduate and impart the skills they had gained in their careers to other aspirants.
Association of Botswana Schools Performing Arts, (ABOSPA), secretary general, Michael Mosipidi said he contacted the director of Muvhango, Duma Ndlovu to come to Botswana to conduct auditions.
“I am happy that Ndlovu is working very hard to assist Batswana actors to find roles in South Africa. We believe that we have produced a lot of actors, but we know very well that we do not have a market,” he said.
Ndlovu said their goal was to employ at least three Batswana, and that after conducting auditions in South Africa, Dichi and Seno managed to land roles.
“When I came here I came with a small team, but we work with a big panel. SABC gets involved as well and I must say it is a huge thing to pass an audition, it is not easy,” he said.
He said they would like to create a relationship with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development because they could achieve a lot more with their collaboration.
Muvhango, he said, was just one production they produced, revealing that he was responsible for three soapies in South Africa.
Ndlovu said he started Muvhango in 1997 and that its viewership currently stands at 5.5 million, adding that he also started Uzalo, which has a viewership of 10 million.
His latest addition is Imbewu, which is broadcast on etv and has two million viewers.
Dichi started appearing on Muvhango this week playing a lawyer representing Gugu, who is one of Muvhango's lead characters.
Seno will start appearing on January 18 in a role which is involved in a love tiff between James and KK. ENDS
