Comedy is about entertaining and tickling people’s funny bones, but not so for Uyapo Khuwa.

Khuwa has decided to use his comedy to spread important messages on health, crime and road safety via social media.

In an interview, Khuwa, who is also known as Koti, said he decided to record video clips and post them on social media in order to empower people.

He said he targets mainly the youth on issues that affect them such as alcohol and drug abuse, crime, health and many more important things.

The 28-year-old Francistown-based comedian said he recorded funny video clips and post them on his Facebook Page and WhatsApp group called Koti Na Papa.

He said he came up with the plan two years ago after he found it fit to use his talent to promote positive living.

Khuwa said people could also download his video clips to watch wherever and whenever they wanted.

He said his video clips were mostly in Setswana and chose to share them on social media in order to reach many people.

He said the Koti Na Papa Facebook Page has more than 42 000 likes, and sometimes the followers gave him advice on what to shoot.

Khuwa said he worked with different volunteers like co-actors, cameramen and script writers.

He said he was planning to shoot episode dramas about people empowerment and would contact local television stations for them to be aired, and would sell others on DVDs and online.

He said he also planned to contact different departments to work with him in educating people and creating awareness.

He advised other artistes, including musicians and comedians, to help the government in educating and empowering people.

Meanwhile, Koti said posting his video clips on social media has made him well known, and people now contacted him to do standup comedy and MC at events such as weddings, where he manages to make some money.

He said he had acted in some comedy dramas with the likes of Radijo, and was also a singer and producer with his own studio in Francistown. ENDS
