03 Dec 2018

Orapa Township was on Novemebr 30 and December 1 thronged by revelers for the 2018 Botswana Defence Force bands concert.
The concert injected a vibe into the Orapa night life, with lively presentations at Orapa sports hall. The concert, which ran for two nights, was welcome by revellers.
The bands, did not disappoint as they kept spectators, of all ages, dancing along from start to finish.

The event was kick-started by the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) band, which played oldies music like “mama wame,” reggae music, and featured Genius, Duncan Senyatso’s son on a folklore song.
SSKB was followed by Francistown band which presented music usually played in the northern part of Botswana like, “Stonkana, splash and spiced up with Bekesela a South African song.”
In an interview with Brigadier Joseph Seelo, Commander Group 2 Brigade group, said they embarked on the charitable event to uplift the lives of the underprivileged members of society.

The concert he said formed part of BDF’s corporate social responsibility Programme of reaching out to the community.
Brigadier Seelo said the concert was another way of trying to showcase Botswana culture through music and that the army was not all about fighting but to was compassionate to the community.

The concert he said also proved that there was a lot at BDF, noting that when they retire, most of the performers, would be able to join any other field, hence the talent they possess should be harnessed.
Some of the proceeds from the 2017 concerts a cheque for P20 000, were handed to Xhumo Village Development Committee.
Brigadier Seelo thanked Batswana for supporting the concert, adding that if the event grows more people would benefit from it. Ends
