Francistown to host cultural day in December

Francistown Inter-Cultural Day Festival organisers have promised a mouthwatering line of activities that will bring life to the city.

One of the event organisers, Keogaile Malawana of Gold Crossing said in an interview that the event would be held from December 7-9 in various places in Francistown

The three-day event, he said would be divided into three categories. On December 7, he said there would be a dinner at Tati River Lodge, followed by a cultural day at the Francistown old Stadium the following day.

Later in the evening, he said there would have a cultural music festival at the Francistown Old Stadium featuring local traditional troupe such as Tjilenje Tje Ngwao, two traditional groups from South Africa and one from Zimbabwe.

The last activity, he said would be a football match between Francistown City councillors against a team made up of three Francistown MPs, who will be joined by captains of industries in Francistown.  

Malawana said four SADC countries; being Zimbabwe, Lesotho, South Africa and Zambia have confirmed their participation but will only send representatives from their respective embassies.

He said they were planning to make the event, which was the first of its kind, an annual event.

He further stated that there would also be a display of food of the various participating countries and traditional beer.

He said 10 per cent of the proceeds of the event would be donated to Francistown School of the Deaf to renovate its fence, which was dilapidated.

Malawana said the other money would be donated to the Francistown Mayors Charity Fund to help the underprivileged members of the society.  ENDS
