Butale warns churches

26 Nov 2018

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Biggie Butale has raised concern about some churches whose practices put the health of congregants at risk.

Officially launching a Christian book titled Divine Health Unmasked written by Reverend Tirelo Phalalo of the Apostolic  Power Chapel on Friday, Butale said such practices had led to a number of people having their health seriously compromised.

“The church, therefore, has to prove to society that it can be trusted in totality because it becomes difficult to trust the church when certain sections begin to involve in illegal and unhealthy practices in the name of God,” he said.

He said it must be noted that the church had to respect the well-being of the sick by avoiding the use of items that could endanger health.

“Coming out clear in this book is how the church must work with the government health care system to assist our sick loved ones,” he added.

Minister Butale further said government appreciated the role of the church in achieving complete health for the citizenry, saying this was so because some of the health facilities across the country started the day with a word of prayer and motivational encouragement.

He noted that one distinct feature about the book was that the author gave himself time to dispel unsafe practices and take the church through a path of faith which was the safest and most appropriate way for the church to conduct and administer healing.

Minister Butale said government had embarked on a campaign to educate people about the importance of healthy bodies and minds. He explained that in the book, Reverend Phalalo urged the church to use proper and ethical means in helping the sick in communities.

Speaking at the event, Reverend John Phillip and founder of the Christian Faith Mission of Botswana said the book was a must-read masterpiece.

He said the book was more like a testimonial experience because it discussed healing and changing mind about God in order to look at the mighty in a more positive way.

Reverend Phillip further said the book could also be used as a resource material and study guide.

For his part, Reverend Phalalo said it had been a long journey to write the book, but that he managed because of God.

He said he had to write something regarding the position of the church in the community, especially in the African continent.

The book reveals how the church must appreciate the role of the medical science, and gives the reader an opportunity to weigh the importance of the mutual relationship that exists between the church and the health sector.. ENDS
