Kwaito music has being associated with young men and boys who do naughty things and engage in fights, use bad language or at times associate with crimes and drugs.
They are even associated with a funny way of dressing, which includes short trousers, machesa and wool hats or spoti. They are even called, Manyora, but not Acuz.
He has gone all out to clean up the stereotypical kwaito image by releasing an album catering for all.
Born Kuda Manyenyegwa, the 33-year-old Siviya native has released a kwaito gospel album titled Zooma Camera.
Speaking in an interview recently, Acuz said the album was released in May and was produced at Bon Fella Records in Francistown by Chase Dipapa.
He said the album contains eight tracks, including the title song Zooma camera, which talks about the problems he had encountered.
One of the songs Baitshwarele, he said was all about forgiveness as he pleads with the Lord to forgive those who had committed crimes.
He has featured Ashley Gops in the song.
Acuz said the other songs were all about praising and thanking the Lord for protecting him and Batswana.
The young musician said he was inspired by local kwaito singers such as Mapetla, Pmag and Zola, Mdu, the late Mandoza from South Africa.
His love for music dates back to the time when he was still a young boy, who used to sing in school and church choirs as well as dikwaere.
Acuz said he chose to sing kwaito so as to make it more appealing to all including the elderly and christians.
Also, he said he wanted to come up with his own music style.
“The problem with local artistes is that we like to copy and do same styles of music, which later bores the fans,” he said.
He said his music was already playing on local radio stations and would market himself though the use of social media and performances at music shows.
Already, he said he had shared the stage with famous artistes such as the legendary Johnnie Mokhali in his country wide tours, Vee Mampeezy, South African House artiste Dj Ganyani, Charma Gal and many others.
He stated that both music fans and artistes love his music, giving an example of Vee Mampeezy who gave him the name ‘King of kwaito Zion’ after they had shared a stage at Area S BDF Camp a few weeks ago.
“I am planning a very big launch in December this year, which will feature local and international music powerhouses,” he said.
Acuz said he would enter the President’s Day competitions next year as he had realised that the event was an important platform for upcoming musicians to promote to promote their music.
He said he was also working on shooting Zooma camera video.
His dream, he said was to be famous both locally and internationally and having his own music studio. ENDS
