Former My Star contestant finds voice

My Star singing competition has been successful in producing some of the country’s biggest music stars such as Amantle Brown, Motlha, Kennedy Thal and Peach Kereemang among others.
But some of the show’s contenders, who captivated the country have vanished.
One such contender is 22-year-old Kamogelo Kgoboko, who went by the stage name ‘Kammy,’ and who participated in season 9 in 2015 alongside the likes of Motlha.
During that season, she made it to the top 10 and serenaded the crowds with her high octave voice.
When she was finally booted out, many had hoped that she would hit the music scene and make a name for herself, but like others before her, she went quiet.
After she left My Star, Kammy said she told herself that she was not going to do music at all until she met music enthusiast like herself in Oteng Moilwa, who encouraged her to take advantage of her soul-soothing voice.
“There is so much hardship for an aspiring musician after My Star. You don’t just become a superstar overnight. Thankfully for me, I had Moilwa who encouraged me not to waste my talent. He always invited me for studio sessions where I have been busy recording an album, which is not titled yet but coming up really well and will be released next year. But before that, I will release a hot new single for my fans to appreciate them for their support and for the encouragement to come back to music,” Kgoboko said in an interview recently.
Kgoboko is finally back after some soul searching, which pushed her back into showbiz after vowing that she was done with it.
Having been passionate about music since 13-years-old and having tried her luck, not only at My Star but also at My African Dream and also sang at church, she concurred that it was only fair that she came back to music.
Recently she released a teaser track for her fans on social media titled Matshediso
“Matshediso is an original cover but the original song is sung by Otriz and Benyboi whom I work with most of the time. When they invited me to do a cover track for them because I had a good voice, I jumped at the opportunity and the reception to the song has been humbling,” she said.
Kgoboko describes herself as a flexible singer who likes songs about love and a little bit of Afro pop. She stated that she would be starting performances in various places.
Locally, she counts Perion and Amantle Brown as her biggest inspirations, while internationally, she is inspired by Sia and Hailey Steinfield.
Asked on who she would like to work with locally, she mentioned ATI and her old friend, Motlha, as well as Dramaboi, Katlego of Sala Lenna fame as well as Sasa Klaas to mention a few. ENDS
