14 Oct 2018
President Mokgweetsi Masisi will be a guest of honour at the annual Mmakgodumo Cultural Festival scheduled for October 27.
In an interview, a member of the organising committee, Taolo Mogobe said Mmakgodumo Cultural Festival was Bangwaketse’s biggest cultural festival, emphasising that they were optimistic that this year’s event would be bigger and better.
He said the festival encompasses a celebration of Bangwaketse Culture, with a showcase of its different elements, including dikgafela, traditional cultural performances, poetry, games and food.
He said the 2018 edition was intended to be a revival of the festival itself, as the event would involve both the traditional and modern aspects of Ga Ngwaketse Culture.
Mogobe said that this year’s event was solely organised by the Bathoen II Trust, unlike in the previous years.
He further said principles such as Botho that have been closely inbuilt within Batswana’s cultural interactions would be emphasised at the event and urged the youth to attend in large numbers.
Furthermore, he said the jubilee would also enhance tourism as well as local empowerment through the sale of stalls for those who want to exhibit their products.
Mogobe said this year's Mmakgodumo Cultural Festival, to be celebrated under the theme: Ngwao, Pinagare ya Ditlhabololo tsa Sennelaruri, would be a cultural exchange occasion as people from different ethnic groups would grace the event.
He said due to the magnitude of the event, planning and organising had been demanding, but a great amount of progress had been made so far. ENDS
