Cultural night highlight of tourism day

Maun residents and tourists thronged the village kgotla on September 26 to celebrate culture as part of the World Tourism Day commemorations.

The day was celebrated by being taken through the history of Batawana eulogy narrated by the Batawana chief representatives while different traditional groups wowed the audience with Seperu and Diware dances among others.

Speaking at the event, Department of Tourism director, Kelebaone Maselesele appreciated all those who honoured the event.

Also, she thanked Batawana bogosi for hosting a successful event.

She said the cultural night was a platform for people to appreciate diverse cultures in Botswana.

For his part, Kgosi Charles Letsholathebe commended Batawana bogosi for successfully carrying on their lineage from one generation to the next.

Kgosi Kealetile Moremi in her remarks appreciated some tribes in the Ngamiland region for upholding their cultures through hosting annual cultural festivities. She observed that the current Batawana Kgosi Tawana II Moremi took chieftaincy from his father Kgosi Letsholathebedi II Moremi.

She said the Batawana settled in Maun around 1915 under the leadership of Kgosi Mathiba Moremi. ENDS
