Miss RADP unearths talent in rural areas

25 Sep 2018

This year’s Ms RADP got a new twist with the annual beauty contest targeting girls from settlement areas bringing in the new element of a fashion show to spice up the show.

Speaking to BOPA in an interview, the organiser of the event in the Molepolole Administrative Authority/Lentsweletau Sub-district, Ms Botho Mbwe said that this year they decided to involve men as models to parade in the fashion show after they realised that men were left behind.

She however mentioned that since the idea was relatively new, the men would not be judged, but they would rather gain exposure and confidence on a much bigger stage.

Ms Mbwe also noted that since the contest started six years back, more girls from the subdistrict, particularly in Kweneng and Loologane settlement have showed  interest as they registered in large numbers.

She further indicated that girls from the mentioned areas who are mostly out of school youth have shown interest in pursuing projects in various areas, notably small stock rearing, beauty salons and others.

She cited that the girl who won the contest last year however did not have an opportunity to carry out her project as she was enrolled for a study programme at IDM institution.

Other contestants have been urged to take up courses at technical colleges or brigades in order to improve their lives.

With the pageant making a difference in many young people’s lives, Ms Mbwe said that she insisted that the pageant should continue in future so that the participants could also compete on other beauty pageants such as Miss Botswana.

The only challenge they encountered when organising the pageant she said was limited resources.

Bone Selabe took position one and she will represent the sub-district  at a regional level come October 20.

Kago Kgokong won the first princess title while Tebogo Moitoki took the second princess title.

All the three girls hail from Loologane settlement.

The queen won her self P1 500 while second and third princesses took P1 200 and P900 respectively.

Consolation prize for both boys and girls was P500 each.

The event was graced by Kgosi Kgari Sechele III accompanied by Mohumagadi Mma Tumagole. Ends
