23 Sep 2018

The Extravaganza Golden Night music festival, which was billed for September 7, has been postponed to November 2 due to lack of sponsorship.

In an interview with BOPA recently, the Human Resource Manager of Sesana Arts Agency, which spearheaded the organising of the event, Baganne Mokgosi, revealed that, they took a decision to postpone the event to re-strategise.

Some of the artistes that were billed to perform included Berry Heart, Ndingo Johwa, Dikgosi Tsa Ngwao, Bujwa Kings and UCM acapella band.

“Shortfall in attracting sponsors had a major effect in hosting the extravaganza golden night.

Our hope had been to host the show to raise money for the Diamond project, which is an empowerment project aimed at moving around schools sensitising youth on issues of teenage pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol abuse,” said Mokgosi.

He said they termed the event Diamond because just as the rare minerals are important to the economy of the country, so are our youth.

He however said they had decided on November 2 as the new date for the show and that they were hopeful to attract new sponsors this time around.

“We will vigorously engage the affected stakeholders such as the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development as well as the Ministry of Health and Wellness and Botswana Police Service to come on board and assist us make a successful event and an equally successful diamond project,” he said.

Lastly, Mokgosi appealed for more sponsors, both individuals and private companies. ENDS
