Ex-convict to transform lives through motivational book

18 Sep 2018

Maun ex-convict, Metlha Maphanyane, is working on a motivational book aimed at transforming lives.

The book, which carries messages about his life in prison, also calls on society to stop stigmatising ex-convicts.

In an interview, Maphanyane explained that prison life made him strong and groomed him into a responsible young man.

The young man said his dream was to establish a rehabilitation centre, as part of his plan to turn the challenges he encountered into opportunities.

His book, he said, was supposed to be published before end of this year, but is now scheduled for early next year due to financial constraints, adding that after publishing the book he will focus on establishing a rehabilitation centre.

Maphanyane, who is also known as ‘Golden tooth‘ says his motivational book  would be a lesson to young boys as it carries a strong message that crime does not pay.

He explained that the book will also teach children, especially those in school, to refrain from criminal activities as crime could destroy their future.

The rehabilitation centre, he said, would offer services such as counselling to inmates and help them reconnect them with their families.

Maphanyane also stressed that there was need to advise prisoners to cut their chain of friends, since he had realised that some friends hindered change, adding that it was wise to choose friends who are willing to see you living a dignified life.

He explained that he had been out of prison for about five years now, but some of his old friends awere still approaching him, saying his focus helped him to cut others.

Maphanyane said he was willing to be a role model to many and appreciated the help from popular motivational speaker and prominent entrepreneur in Maun, Hannah Lech.

She said Lecha helped him to be focused, hence managing to change after prison life as “she welcomed me back into the community and made me what I am today”. She opened doors for me and offered me a job and my life is transformed completely”. ENDS
