Twenty-eight-year old Boikhutso Pilane, motivational speaker turned author, penned down his first book titled DUMB, which is an acronym for Dreamer, Unstoppable, Motivated and Bold.

He revealed in an interview that the idea to write the book came at a point when he realised that he had a message to deliver to the masses.

In his teenage years, Pilane had gone down a path of self-destruction from the use of drugs and engaging in violent activities.

This, he said, emanated from feelings of anger and depression as he felt that he was a failure at everything he did.

But after accepting God as his savior, his life turned around for the better.

He said God directed him to people who were going down the same road he once chose to help them so they could also be saved.

That was when he took up motivational speaking to give words of encouragement to students, workers, prisoners and anyone who cared to listen in the streets.

But because of time limitations, Pilane found that he could not share his message as he would have liked, hence the birth of DUMB.

Explaining the title of the book, Pilane said ‘often we are called dumb for chasing a dream that other people cannot see for the faith we carry in God even in the midst of troubles or as parents who refuse to give up on their stubborn children.’

“With this book we embrace this title and choose to use it positively. It means we carry a dream, this dream is our purpose in life and how God wants us to see ourselves despite our circumstances.

We say we are unstoppable because we look at our lives of triumph and victory and stay motivated because of the promises of God, and then we are bold because we know our identity and where we stand with God and are bold enough to embark on our dreams,” he added.

Narrating his experience during the writing of the book, the Tlokweng-born author was quick to point out that it was not as difficult as one would imagine.

He based his point on the fact that they were the messages he had been preaching as a motivational speaker, so aside from proof-reading and editing it was all smooth sailing.
Additionally, Pilane never imagined writing a book in his life.

But when he finally reached that point, he took the challenge head on with passion and finally published his first book. The book will be launched in Gaborone on October 20  and will be sold in book stores across the country soon after. ENDS
