Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Nonofo Molefhi, who is also Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe East, has commended Cresta Bosele Hotel in Selebi Phikwe for successfully hosting the eighth annual Cresta Letlhafula Festival recently.

The event was held under the theme: Diversification of economy through culture. He said the theme celebrates and appreciates the rich and diverse indigenous culture of the country, adding that the diversity includes different traditional dishes, songs, dance and drama among others.

“The festival also provides a platform to reflect on the value of cultural norms and traditions,” he said.

Molefhi added that the event also provided an opportunity for the promotion of local diversification as a means of maintaining and sustaining the local economy.

He said events such as the Letlhafula Festival had become more critical for Selebi Phikwe as the town was facing economic challenges after the closure of the BCL mine.

He noted that since 2011 the festival had become the centrepiece of Cresta Bosele’s wider outreach programme to assist individuals and communities, including the less privileged as demonstrated by the company donating food vouchers and other items to a child with a disability in Selebi Phikwe.

He commended Gabz FM, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development and other stakeholders for contributing to the festival over the past years to date.

Cresta Bosele Hotel general manager Julius Keepilwe said they were proud to have the festival as an annual event in their calendar. He said besides helping preserve and celebrate culture, the event was held to raise funds to assist less privileged people in the community.

He also commended the Selebi Phikwe community and other stakeholders for supporting the event.

The event was spiced with traditional song and dance, polka dance and entertainment from Kalatsakgale Traditional Dance troupe, Gong Master, and Culture Spears.ENDS
