Bougee strives to make good music

She landed in the music industry in 2016 and of recent Bougee released her third single dubbed No Assistance.

In an interview, 24-year-old Bougee, also known as Lesego Selao, said No Asisstance was inspired by her hunger to make good music after her break from the industry due to other commitments.

She said as a lyricist the song mainly recites that she was at a point where she was empowered and knowledgeable about the industry.

“I stay true to myself, I don’t do anything I don’t want to do, and I am keen on my unique sound.” 

The rapper further narrated that her offering was produced by JT Special Boy of Blcxmail entertainment and was currently taking the song to the people.

Bougee said she has been mentored by Samba T who she met in 2011 and advised her to finish school first which she did. 

She said she worked with Qbio and JT Special boy together on her first track titled Know my Name in 2016 which was produced by Qbio at Sinewave Studio Monkey followed by her second single Stay winning.

She has performed in various local shows such as Jam 4 Brunch and Winter Shutdown and hopes for more bookings.

She also highlighted that being a female hip hop artist was difficult as they faced exploitation and sometimes one was not taken serious, adding that since she landed in the music industry she has learned that it required one to be market oriented.

Bougee said she infuses her music with a bit of jazz and often explored other genres.

She said her singles have videos and was working on the video for No Assistance which she said was due end of August. 

She said she was working on her album that she hoped would be out in May next year, adding that she was hoping for a collaboration with Dramaboi and Amantle Brown. ENDS
