Miss Ramotswa calls for support

Coordinator of Miss Ramotswa Project, Olorato Thobega says the annual Ramotswa beauty pageant continues to soldier on amidst constraints.
The pageant will this year be entering its fourth year running and it has neither secured a sponsor nor buy-in from some community leaders.
Miss Ramotswa Project hosts the annual Miss Ramotswa pageant, whose queen is tasked with some community projects. However, the beauty queen has been having limited limelight as some authorities in the village seemed not to be recognising the pageant, hence failed to engage her on their activities and other district events.
This, however has not deterred the spirit of the organisers, who said they were working on registering the Miss Ramotswa Project and grow it despite all odds.
“We want to grow the project, hence we are calling all those interested to come on board. They can either contribute their time, expertise or resources,” pleaded the project coordinator.
She stated that efforts to expand the project had been hindered by shortage of finances and support, but they will not surrender.
What gives them solace is the fact that Miss Ramotswa Project has been growing over the years and for the first time in their existence, last year’s pageant managed to raise enough funds to cover all the expenses.
“
For the first time, we were able to get refunds for our money, which we spent on organising the event,” added Thobega.
Among the activities they envisage as a way to expand the project is a bootcamp for the participants to work on their character and attitude.
Thobega said they have realised that some of the pageants did not go far due to bad attitude.
“Most of the youth who come to us have talent, but attitude does not work in their favour.
We want them to embrace their talent and have a positive attitude,” she stated.
This year’s Miss Ramotswa pageant will be held in December at a date and venue to be announced.
Meanwhile, she said they were soliciting for the support of the project and she was hopeful that this time around they would be lucky.
Miss Ramotswa is open to those 18 and above and the reigning queen is the face of the project and she is normally tasked to motivate youths, advocate for upholding of social morals and engage in benevolent works. Ends
