Music awards herald good times for gospel

The successful presentation of the first ever gospel awards last weekend has provided a moral boost to the event organisers.

This was confirmed by Botswana Gospel Music Awards (BOGMA) chairperson Gloria Dzwikiti who said they continued to receive messages of compliments within and across the borders following the awards ceremony which had attracted a large crowd of gospel music lovers

Dzwikiti, who was accompanied by award winning Obakeng Sengwaketse, also public relations officer for Association of Gospel Musicians as well as vice chairperson at BOGMA, said they intended to up their game in the next awards event.

She noted that since they started with a high tempo, they would raise the bar in next event, which she promised would be better and magnificent.

Dzwikiti attributed the event’s success to commitment from the organising team as well as support from various sponsors.

The awards were divided into 28 categories and Dzwikiti said there were plans to increase them next year resource permitting.

This year awardees were given certificates and trophies.  Dzwikiti said the winner of the song of the year award in the next awards will also walk away with an unspecified type of automobile. The sponsor in this regard has been ‘conveniently secured’.

Dzwikiti said since the awards were also meant to promote unity and growth among gospel community, BOGMA has already made some connections with some international gospel communities for exchange programmes. She said she would be going with a number of gospel artistes to Gospel Association Namibia Awards this coming September for exposure.

Meanwhile Dzwikiti who is a gospel artiste and recently released her second gospel album titled Re Lesedi after a 10-year break. She thanked all participating local artistes and neighbouring South Africa, Namibia and Swaziland who performed during the awards.

The organising committee will in the coming week be engaged in an evaluation exercise to forge a better future for the organisation. ENDS
