GBF Trust second booknight Today

08 Aug 2018

Book lovers in Gaborone will be treated to a second instalment of the quarterly book night session today courtesy of Gaborone Book Festival (GBF) Trust. Co-founder of the trust, Kenanao Phele revealed in a press release that the book night would feature celebrated authors, Zukiswa Wanner and Niq Mhlongo who are based in Kenya and South Africa respectively.

She said the two were currently on tour across the continent promoting their 2018 book releases: Hardly working- a travel memoir of sorts and Soweto under the apricot tree.

“From the local front, two newly published authors, Bongani Malunga and Monirul Bhuiyan will engage in a book chat,” she said. Malunga’s book: Why an African team may never win the world cup, explores factors why African teams have struggled to perform well at the world cup, while Bhuiyan’s book titled: Khama through the lens, features 10 years of the 4th former president of Botswana in pictures. “We are excited to be hosting these authors.

Three out of four of our platforms are free and accessible to all readers. To keep this status quo, we are still appealing to individuals, families, companies and different entities for sponsorship, support and partnerships to stage the quarterly book night and the upcoming inaugural book festival in September, a platform which does not exist at the moment in our country,” Phele added.

The GBF Trust’s main mission is to foster a love for reading among Batswana and residents of Botswana. The trust achieves its objectives through the school outreach programme, monthly book reviews and book night. ENDS
