In the past talent, especially musical, was considered a pastime that could not put food on the table, but now it is taken seriously and considered a way through which one could earn a living.
That is why it is not amiss for people like 27-year-old Semotswane born youth, Aron Pholo, are dedicated and determined to unearth their musical talent and pursue it as a career.
Pholo said he did not do well in his Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations and instead of wallowing in self-pity, he quickly determined to explore his R&B musical talent.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA, A-Ron BW, as he is affectionately known in the world of music, shared that as a firm believer who was raised in church, he chose to explore his God given talent, and thus joined the African Evangelical Church praise and worship team, where he learned live music with instruments to hone his skill.
Pholo said he also derived inspiration from listening to international music artistes such as John Legend and Usher Raymond, whose songs he said paved the way to compose some songs.
His first song was recorded at Star Records Studio in Francistown in 2013, but he did not drop the single as he believed it was of low quality and was not pleased with the rhythm of the R&B he was looking for.
He said he wanted his songs to be well received by fans to open doors and create a brand name for him, adding that he did not want to be driven by the excitement that he recorded a song, only to end up as a one song wonder. After the first failure, the young man said he relocated to Serowe to meet Young Spadi Rams, a producer who worked with the likes of Serwalo Masasa, former My Star contestant known as Lil Pink.
In collaboration with the said producer, Pholo said he recorded two songs titled ‘\Without you and Green lights, which went viral on social media, putting him on the spotlight.
“Green lights is a song in which I talk about my journey in the music industry. My dream was certainly in the process of becoming a reality as I could see my destiny and I compared this to the green colour on the traffic light signaling that one can proceed,” explained the upcoming artist.
After building a fan base, Pholo said he recorded an eight track album titled Time and Reason with another music producer and DJ Nchidzi Gabriel Bungile of The Truth Vice Versa in Tonota.
The album has songs like Dreams, Mirror and Move Satan featuring the likes of We Beastz and DJ C.A.L, who added a flavour of hip-hop to give it a feel of R&B and hip-hop motswako. He said he performed his songs during the BOT 50 celebrations at Semotswane and last year at Shashe River Senior Secondary School boot camp, revealing that he is also a regular performer at Shashe Dam Club.
His producer, Bungile, said Pholo is a good upcoming artiste and believes that he will soon penetrate the music industry in his field of interest.
“Aron is one of the best vocalists I have met and he is pulling strings. He might not be at the peak of a mountain but I see him as above board,” explained the producer.
The upcoming artiste believes that there is time for everything, and God’s time is the best, further pointing out that patience pays and it takes perseverance to reach a destination. His advice to fellow upcoming artistes is for them to package themselves well before releasing their songs, emphasising that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
“You do not just wake up in the morning and say you want to release an album,” Pholo said. mistakes,” he revealed. ENDS
