Miss RADP brands remote areas

07 Aug 2018

Kenna Mokhutshwane of Kedia was crowned Miss RADP Boteti region in Letlhakane on Friday.

First princess title went to Joy Gotang also of Kedia while Kebatshabile Motlhaping of Khwee was crowned second princess.

Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Sethomo Lelatisitswe said the pageant unearthed talent and provided a platform to sell remote villages to the world.

The legislator also hailed the pageant for its role in promoting and branding remote villages from which contestants come from.

Remote villages in Boteti, he said had little or no investment opportunities and were hardly mentioned.

Lelatisitswe said, in an endeavour to bridge the gap between remote area communities and other villages, government made a deliberate move to prove to the world that there was more to remote areas than it was known.

The affirmative action framework, he said was interested in cultural preservation such as language preservation, traditional song and dance as well as other practices only found in Basarwa communities.

He implored leaders to jointly advocate for remote area communities.

The pageant, he said was the right platform for young women to learn that there was more to life than what their communities had to offer as the talent and skill from the villages was immense but needed support from the leadership to bring a positive change.

Boteti Sub-district assistant council secretary, Ndidza Molatole said the objective was to boost confidence of the contestants and encourage them to participate in the world stage.

Molatole further said the pageant promoted inclusiveness and for the participants to know that they were entitled to benefit from any government programme and also to ensure the pageant changed their lives for the better.

The event was graced by La Timmy and Young Storm among other artistes. ENDS
