Natural hair fashion show returns

01 Aug 2018

Hair blogger Antoinette Kamodi, through her beauty movement Amazing NaturalBW, will host the second edition of natural hair fashion show in Jwaneng on August 4.

The show, which brings together stylists, fashion designers, hair products manufacturers, make-up artists, bloggers and photographers to display talent, is expected to be bigger and better with renowned designers and stylists.

Kamodi revealed in an interview that the aim of the show was to promote excellence in creative youth businesses, brand building and marketing as well as to promote natural hair care business and African Fashion.

“It is all about embracing our natural hair and African fashion with a tag line we don’t go natural, we return natural, that’s where it began. This year’s theme is Wakanda inspired and it is a magic night to look out for,” said Kamodi.

She highlighted that they would also bring it home by featuring local cultural fashion from Herero, Kalanga as well as Southern of Botswana’s traditional outfits.

She said Sotho, Zulu and Nigerian fashion would also be showcased. Kamodi added that it was important for Africans to retrace their steps back to the natural way and use suitable hair products to maintain good looks.

“Natural hair is an art and lifestyle to some naturalists and an inspiration to those who believe in beauty. Following the success of the inaugural show last year, we were inspired to make the show an annual event to inspire the Jwaneng community who want to go the natural way and give them an opportunity to learn about hair brands that could keep their hair budding to enhance natural beauty,” explained Kamodi.

She urged fashion brands, stylists, hair bloggers and natural hair products manufacturers to join hands to move the artistic and creative industry forward.

As a natural hair blogger, Kamodi had to travel to Gaborone now and then to look for natural hair products to maintain her Afro and she therefore saw the need to bring the exhibitors under one roof to show the Jwaneng community how to maintain their natural hair.

The show will be held at Jwaneng Cresta Lodge on Saturday at 8pm and tickets are up for sale for P100. ENDS
