Mogapinyana youth volunteers group, Voice of Peers, is appealing for sponsorship to help realise their dream of producing a magazine for the local primary school to capture its memories.
In an interview with BOPA, the 10-member group founder and secretary, Kesa Sekomoto said to come up with a professional product, his team was conducting research from the elders on the evolution of education in the village, dating back from the slate to notebook era.
Sekomoto revealed that the aim of the project was to acknowledge school heads, from the first principal to the current school head chronicling their successes and achievements.
He said the other objective was to create a fruitful friendship and partnership with former Mogapinyana Primary School staff with the current, for them to regularly visit the school to share ideas on both the curriculum and sport.
He said involving the former is vital given their experiences, especially during times when resources were scarce.
He said the envisaged magazine will also feature the addresses, reports from former and current teachers on how to tackle life and highlight the current worldwide situation of high unemployment and how to choose the right careers and professions needed for growth.
Sekomoto said the magazine would also empower youth to be resilient and have the self-reliance spirit and it would also promote the spirit of giving by listing all stakeholders who have ever donated to the school as well as gratitude notes to those sponsors.
He said it may be a catalyst for companies to come forth to sponsor schools and communities as a way of helping to improve the standard of education and lives.
The Voice of Peers founder said they were conducting research on life experiences, the percentage of those who succeeded through education back in the day compared to today, issues of HIV/AIDS challenges in schools, school boycotting and teenage pregnancy at schools among others.
Sekomoto encouraged his peers to use their skills by engaging even in not-for-profit community activities to enhance and enrich the community, especially that most are unemployed.
He encouraged other youngsters to utilise all government empowerment programmes to eradicate poverty and to reduce unemployment in the country.
Mogapinyana councillor, Mmaletsatsi Nthobatsang commended the Voice of peers for their inspiring initiative, adding that it was good that the youth came up with such an interesting idea that would benefit them in the long run.
