The saying that perseverance is the mother of fortune came true for the Sentsima brothers, Onalethata and Tefo whose dream of establishing a clothing label was realised. 

The duo from Mahalapye established a clothing label, VAYA TAJ in 2013. In an interview, VAYA TAJ chief executive officer, Onalethata had stated that the brand, which was now an established clothing label in Mahalapye was associated with their passion and love for art. 

“The business was inspired by authentic talent that was nurtured through taking art,  which was a practical subject while at Madiba Secondary School,” he said. “I developed an idea of converting my God given talent into a business,” he added.  

He said the business was kickstarted through personal savings and managed to thrive through the support of family members.

“Our aim is to see the clothing brand growing and penetrating the international market, he said.

The business currently operates from a makeshift stall at the old Mahalapye mall opposite bus rank.

He is optimistic that in future, VAYA TAJ would open branches at other locations across the country. 

The youthful business has created employment for five and has appealed to the youth to venture into businesses with the potential of creating employment opportunities. 

He said small businesses like VAYA TAJ owned by the locals played a pivotal role in diversifying the economy and improving livelihoods of people in rural areas.

He further stated that due to financial constraints, VAYA TAJ, at times experienced shortage of material and pleaded with potential investors to partner with the clothing brand. 

Meanwhile, Tefo, who is VAYA TAJ marketing manager, said the clothing label had a Facebook page where they market their products.

The company print T-shirts for companies, groups and even personalised brands for individuals. ENDS
