South African artiste, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, will be a headliner at the Waar Was Jy Oldies series that is set to take place at BotswanaCraft on August 3.

The great princess of Africa, as Chaka Chaka is affectionately known in the music fraternity, will share the stage with Brown Sugar band and Botswana’s very own DJ Boogie Sid.

As part of giving back to the community, Waar Was Jy has chosen Botswana Society for the Deaf (BSD) as one of the organisations that will benefit from the festival as part of the proceeds from the night will be donated to them.

Music promoter and organiser, Lecco Kenosi, said Waar Was Jy Oldies series was aimed at including everyone even people with disability, hence the inclusion of Botswana Society for the Deaf.

“We have reserved about 100 corporate tickets worth P1 000 each whose money will be donated to charity. We believe that this money will come in handy for Botswana Society for the Deaf as it can be used to get more resources needed to help in the running of the organisation,” he said.

Kenosi further noted that this year’s installment of Waar Was Jy did not have any VIP tickets, but corporate ticket holders would get the chance to mingle with, and take photographs of themselves with Chaka Chaka.

“It should be noted that Yvonne Chaka Chaka is an expensive artiste but she has decided to do this event at very reasonable prices because she is very passionate about charity work and giving back to communities.

Therefore, I urge all corporates and individuals to come on board, buy the tickets and allow this event to become a success,” he said

“We expect her to arrive in Botswana on August 2, where she will visit all BSD facilities in Gaborone, Ramotswa and Francistown so she gets to experience where her donations will go to,” Kenosi added.

For his part, acting director for BSD, Kabelo Seadimo expressed excitement over partnership with Waar Was Jy, saying the collaboration will come in handy for the NGO as that will allow them to network with and form potential relations with relevant stakeholders.

“Most people are under the belief that deaf people cannot hear music but I want to clear that misconception and say that they respond to the rhythm and vibrations through their feet, so people should not seem surprised to see them dancing,” he noted.

Tickets for the show go for P300 while start time is 7pm to 12 midnight.Tickets can be purchased at BotswanaCraft.  ENDS
