Kayoka cracks way in comedy
10 Jul 2018
Local comedians threw in every joke in their books and emptied their bags of trickery for the mouthwatering grand prize of P10 000 at the finals of this year’s President’s Day celebrations comedy and drama competitions.
Once again, comedy and drama proved to be the crowd’s favourite as the oversized Sir Seretse Khama Barracks auditorium was filled to the brim.
Spectators jostled for decent seats to witness the talent displayed by groups and comedians as far as Tsabong, Maun, and Kasane amongst others.
A spiced line-up of comedians left the crowd in stitches but the toast of the evening was a newcomer, Richard Kayoka who clawed his way to the first spot in a tight contest.
He kept the crowd entertained with his careful wit and his heavy tinge of the Setawana accent added aroma to the already jovial mood.
On the second spot, came the Kgatleng native Thabang Kgafela.
Kgafela broke into the comedy scene three years ago and has proved his undisputed skill in comedy.
He has already shared the stage with comedy heavyweights and was undoubtedly one of the favourites to clinch the fat cheque going into the finals.
Immediately after Kgafela was Maun native Sedimba Shitah.
Yellow Bone as Shitah is affectionately known in comedy circles cracked tribal jokes poking fun at his Hambukushu tribe much to the delight of the crowd but that was not enough to please the judges as he settled for the third spot.
Other comedians who graced the night were Boniface Roy Sesana Phetole from New Xanagas, Koketso Keolopile of Tswapong, One Kenosi and Abel Maruza from Gaborone. ENDS
