Mma Mosadi Movement, which started in 2016 in Maun, and currently runs events that empower women across the country, is raising funds for the Mrs World Botswana contestant for the upcoming Mrs Global International pageant.
Speaking in an interview, Mma Mosadi Movement chairperson, Marea Otlaadisa said her movement assisted women with funds in their respective causes because once empowered, women make the world a better place.
“It is upon women to assist and uplift one another,” she said.
Otlaadisa said the organisation found it fit to help the previous Mrs World Botswana contestant in her endeavour to compete at the upcoming Mrs Global International pageant.
Mrs World Botswana is a pageant for married women in which, Portia Sam-Hwera of Maun represented Botswana in South Korea in 2016 where she scooped two awards although not the coveted title.
The fundraising activities, she said, would run from July to August in order to raise P10 000 from their, ‘Grooming a Queen Rib Chill Session’ that would be held every Sunday at Nhabe Museum.
Otlaadisa said the contestant needs about P50 000 for her trip to Johannesburg, South Africa in September.
For her part, Sam-Hwera said the pageant aims to promote participation of married women in beauty contests, to keep nurturing their talents and beauty.
She appreciated the support from other women through the Mma Mosadi movement, adding that women who empower one another sow possibilities of growing together and bringing positive changes.
“There is nothing more humbling like seeing strong, fearless and powerful women working together to raise other women,” she said.
“With the support from my husband, we have been able to save an amount close to P10 000, which has a shortfall and we hope with the help of Mma Mosadi Movement and other donors, we will be able to raise enough money for my trip to this upcoming pageant,” she added.
Sam-Hwera explained that the 13-day event would feature international women, who would motivate and build each other to keep nurturing their modeling talents.
She said it was realised that a lot of married women tend to abandon their beauty and modelling talents.
“Women tend to get out of shape once married, which maybe the reason why we have a lot of divorce cases,” she said.
Sam-Hwera thanked Mma Mosadi Movement for showing interest in her other charity efforts such as the campaign against cancer among others. ENDS
