Melao e Lesome heals

14 Jun 2018

The leader of Tlokweng-based clap and tap gospel group going by the name Melao e Lesome says through their music they have been able to heal some dejected and lost souls.  Goitseone Mokobi, who is also the founder of this seven-year-old group, which started singing since 2011, said their clap and tap music, which of late has gained popularity especially in the urban centres, had managed to bring people especially the young desperate souls closer to the Lord as many have rediscovered themselves.

Mmamane, as Mokobi is affectionately called by a legion of her youthful choir mates, noted that their music was an emotional healing prescription to all, adding that it has the potential to build and unite broken families as well as bring back wayward youth into the right pathway.

With a membership of 40 from various spiritual and mainline churches as well as non-church goers, the group was able to record their first eight-track album last year with the help of Raise Gospel Stars organisers after participating in their gospel auditions where they competently proved that they have what it takes to sing.

Mokobi, who is also secretary of Clap and Tap Association of Botswana said at the moment their album could be bought from the Bible Society. She said they would compete in the upcoming BOMU awards.

Apart from singing, the group which prides itself with their Ngaka Ya Lefu titled album, was also involved in community service projects like helping the needy and taking part in funerals as well as visiting patients and praying for them especially at Princess Marina Hospital, where their demand has since increased.

Since some of its members are not working the group try by all means to meet some of their social and economic needs by offering some stipends to sustain themselves.

The group has built solid trust and the spirit of support amongst members.

Before forming her group, Mokobi used to ply her trade with Ba ba Biditsweng ke Lentswe Tap and Clap Group for 10 years, where she was groomed and gained self-confidence.

Meanwhile she paid tribute to the executive producer of their album Joel “Ntsoro” Keitumele and producer Tshepo Lesole as well as their patron who is also the MP for the area Masego Segokgo.

Some of their songs, she said, are based on Biblical verses. The songs are; Ha le mpotsa, Taba yaka, Ngaka ya Lefu, Menate ya Lefatshe, Ketla latela Morena, Retla fitlha kwa moseja, Dihwai tsa Morena and ExodusENDS
