Sjapi Pantsula Crew appeals for support
05 Jun 2018
Chairperson of Sjapi Pantsula Crew Kesaobaka Rapula has appealed to Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) councillors for support.
When addressing councillors at the ongoing SAA June session recently, Rapula said they were a benevolent and charitable cause that existed to assist the less privileged members of society whilst simultaneously helping to combat social ills.
Contrary to stereotypes attached to the movement, he said, Mapantsula were a law abiding crew, usually neat in dress, who assist law enforcers to bring order to societies they live in.
The Sjapi Pantsula Crew chairperson said that they were currently engaged in efforts to combat alcoholism and drug abuse in schools.
In solidarity, SAA chairperson Mpho Kooreme called on his fellow councillors to give the crew a chance.
He said police reports bore testimony as Mapantsula had not been implicated in the many criminal activities recorded.
Kooreme allayed fears that the long standing connection of Mapantsula to crime was merely a known stereotype meant to tarnish their image.
He said the crew was already engaged in a fundraising activity to assist with funds for some schools’ prize giving activities. ENDS
