31 May 2018

Moshupa/Manyana constituents will tomorrow be spoilt for choice during a traditional exposition that seeks to show the diverse cultures of Batswana.

The expo going by the name A re Apeeng, is billed for Saturday (June 2) and will be held in an open space in front of Pep Store in Moshupa.

In an interview, A re Apeeng (PTY) Ltd managing director, Chef Richard Molefe, said the event would showcase local and traditional cuisine of Botswana’s diverse cultures.

He said the event also sought to impart skills of cultural food preservation, adding that there were various advanced ways to cook traditional food without tampering with the original taste.

Molefe said the event would encourage communities to use traditional food alongside the beautiful landscape of the constituency to change the economic land scape of the communities.

He therefore, pleaded with communities to be ambassadors of traditional food as well as creating brands to help their products penetrate markets thus creating employment to improve the quality and standards of their life.

“Food production continues to be the backbone of most livelihoods. The sector remains an important source of food, income, capital and employment creation,” he said.

He however lamented that local farmers specialised only in production rather than processing,” urging food producers to consider processing.

Molefe said the expo would encourage people to venture into agriculture thus enabling the country to achieve food security, job creation, enterprise development and poverty eradication and consequently economic diversification.

He said the day’s activities would include free food sampling, demonstration of advanced cooking skills of cultural/traditional food as well as imparting free information on food handling and protection.

He said the event was scheduled to start at 10am. Molefe pleaded with people from all walks of life to come in large numbers since the event’s success would exalt the constituency as well as celebrating Botswana’s diverse heritage. ENDS
