Jyotica sings hip hop RnB with gusto

23 May 2018

Botswana is a land of endless opportunities, which, with little encouragement and sufficient mentoring, tutoring and funding from both government and private entities could be exploited for economic gain.

With regard to the music industry, Botswana is fairing  well and other nations are beginning to take notice since the country had long started exporting the craft.

Gone are the days when music festivals were dominated by South African music groups because Batswana are doing it for themselves. Groups have been formed and while some were able to stand the test of time, others disbanded. Interestingly most of the musicians are young and bubbly youngsters, who not only attract their peers but also appeal to the old folk. One such young talent is Jyotica, born Jyotica Karabo Bogatsu in the year of the Lord 1995.

Jyotica is no stranger to the public sphere and has featured in talent shows where she was encouraged to work on her talent. Jyotica, who is the director of JyoJau Fashions, also co-owns Chimso Investments and has released two hip hop singles, Once Upon a Time and Call It What You Wanna which are to be included in her soon to be released 12-track album titled The Beginning.

The two singles follow hot on the heels of Ridin’ Aces which reached radio and television studios in 2016. Jyotica’s music is rich in language and complemented with well-orchestrated instruments and one can be excused for thinking she is America’s Britney Spears.

She said she first appeared in the public as a child model and singer at Little Miss Botswana in 1997 which was graced by the late prominent South African actor and musician Joe ‘Sdumo’ Mafela, of ‘Sgood ‘Snice’ fame. She was also one of the Cyber 2000 Models Fashion show held at Maitisong Hall and participated in the 2005 Redds Fashion Show at 25 East, River Walk in Gaborone.

Besides music, Jyotica said had a zest for languages and was currently studying French at the University of Botswana. The young lass, who hails from Mochudi, credits her mother Lesego for encouraging her, and said she was determined to prove that she was not in the music and fashion industry by chance. ENDS
