The newly appointed Selebi Phikwe Softball Extravaganza and Comets softball Club patron, Minister for State President Moeti Mohwasa, has promised to work effortlessly to elevate the softball sport code and continue to enhance its relevance within the Selebi Phikwe region.

With the softball extravaganza scheduled for July 19 to 21, Mohwasa emphasised the importance of cooperation among relevant stakeholders, highlighting that the extravaganza is a legacy to the Selebi Phikwe region that offers a wealth of opportunities and could benefit local business entities and foster community spirit.

“I am honoured to take the role, and I am passionate about seeing our local talent flourish. With the support and community involvement, we can transform the culture of softball in Selebi Phikwe into something.

I am also grateful for what the previous patron has done, their efforts have done a remarkable difference,” he said. He also appreciated that the softball extravaganza has emerged as a beacon of resilience despite the countless challenges when the BCL Mines which played a significant part towards the event closed, leaving them with financial challenges to facilitate the success of the event.

He said the extravaganza has transformed into more than just a sporting event; but it has become the cornerstone of hope and unity for the Selebi Phikwe region

“Despite it all the spirit to triumph by organisers and former patrons has kept the event alive and continued to boost business opportunities that looked up to it, this has also kept the vibrancy of the town despite the gloomy that the closure of BCL mines painted on many,” he said.

In addition to developing talent, Mohwasa pleaded for more stakeholders and sponsors to come on board to enhance in different aspects that will attract emerging players and accord them necessary resources.

Selebi Phikwe Town Clerk, Lawrence Mokotedi said that the event will bring together the community and possibly inspire those who wish to pursue their dreams in sport. ENDS
