The title race in the Southern Women’s League for the 2024/2025 season is heating up as the top two teams, Jwaneng Galaxy and Zodiac Collabo Girls prepare for a crucial weekend clash.

Currently, Galaxy leads with 34 points from 12 matches, while the Collabo Girls are one point behind, setting the stage for an exciting encounter at the Kanye Swallows ground tomorrow morning.

Collabo Girls coach, Edwin Motseothata expressed confidence ahead of the fixture, emphasising their determination to secure all three points and defend their title. Despite facing injury challenges within the squad, Motseothata believes his players are committed to putting forth their best effort to overcome Galaxy, particularly given the significant goal difference that favors their rivals.

On the other side, Galaxy coach, Gaolethoo 'Ronaldo' Nkutlwisang, highlighted their goal of maintaining a winning streak and their aspirations to compete in the DTCB women’s football championship, with hopes of advancing to CAF competitions.

Keemenao Mmolawa, the secretary of the Southern Region Women’s Football League committee, mentioned that the league sponsored by Jwaneng Mine for P300,000, is drawing to a close by the end of April. She expressed excitement regarding the potential renewal of sponsorship, which has been crucial for the league's operation.

The competition includes ten teams, with Maletamotse, Moshupa New Stars, and Extension Gunners also breaking into the top five. For the season's rewards, the league champions will receive P15 000, while the second and third places are set to earn P12 500 and P10 000 respectively. The fourth placed team will receive P7 500, and all other teams will benefit with a prize of P5 000 each.

Additionally, each participating team is entitled to a P9 000 grant to support their operations during the league season. As the competition narrows down, all eyes will be on the upcoming matches and the battle for the championship title. ENDS
