26 Mar 2024
Plot allocation in Letlhakane will commence in the villages of Letlhakane, Mopipi, Mmeya, Mosu, Mokubilo and Khwee before end of 2023/2024 financial year and will continue into the new financial year.
A number of plots have already been approved to facilitate the allocations.
Addressing the council session in Letlhakane recently, Boteti Council Chairperson Mr Molemi Galeragwe indicated that they experienced an influx of land rights applications especially in villages such as Letlhakane, Mmatshumo, Mokobaxane and Makgaba attributing it to the mining activity.
Currently, Letlhakane Sub-landboard waiting list for Boteti East Constituency applications stands at 35 563.
He said it was worth noting that random allocations had been ceased in lieu of systematic allocations per layouts and plots that were to be allocated as they had to be registered in the name of the Land Board with the Deeds Registry before allocation to individuals.
Mr Galeragwe indicated that they would facilitate issuance of secure land title before allocation of land.
In addition, he stated that preparations to allocate residential plots in Xhumo and Khumaga layouts had commenced, while the allocations would be conducted before end of March 2024.
Xhumo layout had about 198 plots for an application list of about 324 applicants while Khumaga layout had about 339 plots for an application list of about 650 applicants.
A total of 336 applications had been conveyed and registered for the secure land title with the Deeds Registry, 177 of these had been printed and received by the sub-land board whilst the remaining 159 registered titles were still with the deeds registry, he said.
He stated that 149 of 177 titles received had been collected whilst 28 titles were yet to be collected. ENDS
