Ms Gosego Mosweu, a manager at Ker and Downey Botswana Dinaka Camp in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve lives for her customers’ happiness.
Ms Mosweu, 26 became the youngest manager at Ker and Downey Botswana in 2018.

The Orapa-born lass who grew up in Selebi Phikwe told BOPA that she grew up aspiring to be either an architecture or a pilot but her love for travelling influenced her choice of career and that landed her at the Botswana Accountancy College, to pursue a Degree in Tourism Management.

After completing her studies, she landed a job as a travel agent at RICA in Gaborone where she stayed for two years and moved to Maun where she did the same.

Ms Mosweu recalled that it was her time at RICA where she got to travel to different places that sparked her passion for the bush life and when she moved to Maun, she joined Ker and Downey Botswana as a trainee manager.

She said she worked at all five Ker and Downey Botswana Camps before becoming a co-manager with one Mr Tebogo Thogo at Ker and Downey Botswana Dinaka Camp.

Ker and Downey Botswana, she said was set on empowering locals and young people, and trusted her with the role of a manager.

She was not the only young manager she said, there were other young people given the same opportunity. Ms Mosweu said, she was determined to impress.

“I am always driven by how to please my guests every day. I love seeing new faces, to have fun with them and to make them feel at home,” she said.

Her favourite part of the job is enhancements such as hosting surprise dinners, sundowners, bush breakfast and lunch.

“Some think bush life is only for males and that is not so. Anyone can do it as long as they are dedicated,” Ms Mosweu said.

Being a young manager she said, had its challenges because some viewed her as only a child.

But because of supportive supervisors, things improved and ultimately people warmed up to her.

“It is not an easy thing to do. The trick is to make every part of your job interesting and do it yourself. Be a go getter,” she said.

She emphasised team work, as important in her line of work and something they believed in at Dinaka Camp.

Being a team player she assists in every department from laundry, scullery and cleaning rooms.

She said the company introduced rates for locals in the wake of COVID-19 which attracted more locals than before.

Ms Mosweu advised that for one to have the best experience, they should book well in advance and check for a suitable time to have the best safari experience.

She said the camp offered a unique safari experience as Bushman walk which was educational, had a bunker and hide for guests to view animals closely, the look-out platform to see animals from above and sleep out deck, where one could sleep out and view the stars. ENDS
