Serowe Administrative Authority warns fraudsters

Serowe Administrative Authority senior assistant council secretary Mr Uyapo Mafunye has warned parents and guardians who duplicate vouchers for orphans and destitute people to acquire food at various designated shops unlawfully that punitive action will be taken against them.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting held by Member of Parliament for Serowe South Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi at Phokela and Morwakwena, the official said perpetrators acquired food illegally and knowingly.
“There are instances where a single voucher has been duplicated and used at about four shops,” Mr Mafunye revealed and informed the residents that their investigations were still underway.
At Morwakwena kgotla, Mr Mafunye vowed that perpetrators would face the wrath of the law much to the approval of the attendants.
On other issues, the official informed residents that Serowe will have its first traffic lights at an intersection at Boiteko Junction Mall and another in front of Central Primary School, next to Caltex filling station.
The installation of lights that would cost around P2.5 million, he said, would help control dense traffic along the Palapye Serowe road especially during the pick hours.
On other developmental issues, Ms Sadie Ngwako from Serowe District Health Management Team informed residents that under the Economic Stimulus Programme the old Sekgoma Hospital would be turned into a 24 hour clinic.
She also revealed that another 24 hour clinic, Boipelego Clinic will get five residential houses whilst two more are earmarked for nutrition clinic.
Commenting on other unrelated issues at the same meeting, Assistant Superintendent Boipelo Ntatiwa of Serowe Police warned against defilement. Superintendent Ntatiwa has specifically cited some taxi operators as possible drivers of this illegal act. He revealed that some taxi drivers lured students by seducing them with free rides to and from schools.
“We have already identified some combis that we know are specifically for girl students,” he said sounding a warning against men whom he said were distractions to students’ learning.
Superintendent Ntatiwa also appealed to parents and caregivers to ensure that students left school and reached their homes safely and on time. Many students especially girls, he observed, spent evening times loitering at malls aimlessly while others met with some men. To this he warned that it could result in defilement and teenage pregnancy.
Amongst a host of things he discouraged, Superintendent Ntatiwa called on residents to shun employing illegal immigrants.
He cited incidents where illegal immigrants left their keepers wounded by way of stealing valuables whilst others went a step further to torch keepers’ houses in anger.
However, ASP Ntatiwa warned that police officers will still press charges against the illegal immigrant keeper despite the loss of valuables. Ends
