Omaweneno churches unite in prayer against social ills

15 Apr 2025

Churches in Omaweneno came together on Sunday to pray for issues of national concern such as road accidents, drug abuse, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The gathering aimed to raise awareness and seek divine intervention regarding these pressing issues, particularly as the Easter Holiday approaches. Pastor Thatayaone Simane of the host Congregation Church of Christ stressed the vital role of the church in saving lives, a responsibility extended beyond the capabilities of the government alone.

He pointed that the joint prayer service underscored the commitment of the Omaweneno churches to work collaboratively with the government and the community, to mitigate the risks associated with road accidents and GBV, especially during peak travel seasons like the Easter holidays.

Omawneno Councillor, Atlholang Gabankalafe urged church members to assist the government in the ongoing fight against both road accidents and GBV. He called upon the youth to take the teachings shared seriously and to translate them into meaningful action.

Inspector Irene Motaung of Tsabong Police Station implored drivers to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles before embarking on long journeys and to verify that they possessed valid permits from the transport office. She stressed the importance of ensuring the fitness and adequate rest for drivers.

Inspector Motaung cautioned about overloading vehicles, and urged residents to arrange with neighbours to keep an eye on their homes during extended periods away. He cautioned against traveling with an excessive number of children. ENDS
