Ministry proritises construction of Bobonong hospital
20 Mar 2025
Government has prioritised to construct Bobonong Primary Hospital with 70 beds capacity under the second phase of the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) 2024-2025.
Responding to a parliamentary question yesterday, Assistant Minister of Health Mr Lawrence Ookeditse said the project was assigned to the currently under review Development Manager model. He noted that the outcomes of the exercise would inform the decisions to be taken regarding the future implementation mode of the aforementioned project.
Mr Ookeditse further explained that they prioritised the hospital because it serviced a large population of about 77 504 in its catchment area. Initially, he said, the ministry had planned to undertake three projects, namely, the 70-bed hospital, one primary hospital in Tsetsebye and Borotsi clinic under the National Development Plan 11.
Mr Ookeditse however said the new administration priorittised the delivery of health infrastructures, and due to financial constraints, the two projects being the Tsetsebye and Borotsi clinic were not catered for under the TNDP. He acknowledged that failure to implement the three mentioned projects had impacted on the health and well being of Bobirwa constituents.
Bobirwa MP, Mr Taolo Lucas had asked the minister if he was aware that all the three health projects earmarked for Bobirwa constituency, namely the 70-bed hospital, Level 1 primary hospital in Tsetsebye and Borotsi Clinic were not done as planned under NDP11.
He also asked if the ministry was aware that the non-implementation of the three projects had impacted on the health and well being of the Bobirwa people.
Mr Lucas further asked the minister to state if they would consider prioritising the projects. ENDS
