Council Chairperson proposes Local Authority Forum
19 Mar 2025
The Chairperson of the Mogoditshane-Thamaga District Council, Mr Tona Selala has proposed the establishment of a Local Authority Forum.
Addressing the Mogoditshane-Thamaga District councillors in Mogoditshane on Monday, Mr Selala said the forum he was proposing would bridge the gap between the councils and Parliament, ensuring a stronger, more unified voice for local governance.
Mr Selala said currently, many motions and resolutions from councils were submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, which could create delays and barriers to progress.
“However, with Local Authorities Forum, we can streamline this process, enabling our motions and resolutions to go directly to Parliament, through Parliament committees,” he said.
He said this direct line of communication would enhance ability to advocate for the needs of communities and ensure that local concerns were addressed at the national level.
He a Local Authority Forum would foster greater collaboration, facilitate effective governance, and ultimately serve the citizens more effectively. ENDS
