Bonno housing scheme launch tomorrow
18 Mar 2025
Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi is expected to officially launch the Bonno National Housing Programme in Mabutsane’s Molwaagale ward tomorrow.
The launch follows the announcement by the minister when presenting the Committee of Supply Statement for the 2025/2026 Consolidated and Development Fund Estimates to the ongoing Parliament session. Government has committed to provide 100 000 housing units in five years under the programme, through partnership with the private sector.
Apart from providing affordable and decent housing to Batswana, the revamped scheme is also intended to give beneficiaries a variety of house plans to choose from.
“The revamped programme, which is named Bonno National Housing Programme, will focus on inclusivity and commitment to the provision of dignified living conditions for Batswana. The programme will also be improved by embracing modernised housing designs and technologies in line with current trends and best practices in the housing sector,” minister Onneetse Ramogapi had said.
In his Budget Speech delivered last month, the Vice President and also Minister of Finance Mr Ndaba Gaolathe communicated government’s commitment to realigning the low income housing programme with national priorities.
“The government of Botswana reaffirms its commitment to ensuring access to shelter as a fundamental human right.” ENDS
