New school progressing well

18 Mar 2025

Construction of a new primary school in Kopong to help reduce student enrolment congestion in the area is progressing well.

Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa highlighted this when responding to a question in Parliament recently. He said construction commenced in August 2024 and the project was progressing well as planned.

“This new primary school would reduce congestion and over population across Kopong schools,” he said.

He told Parliament that he was aware of students congestion at a number of schools in Kopong, including Letsholo and Molefhe primary schools. At Molefhe Primary School, he said 10 classes were currently taught outdoors.

He said the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs through Kweneng District Council therefore prioritised construction of an additional primary school at Kopong under the Transitional Development Plan II of 2023/2024 to 2024/2025 and was approved with other priorities.

Additionally, he said a proposal for construction of staffrooms at all Kopong primary schools inclusive of Molefhe Primary School would be submitted for consideration under National Development Plan 12 (NDP12).

The minister was responding to a question by Lentsweletau/ Lephephe MP Mr Tshenolo Bogatsu, who wanted to know if the minister was aware of the high student enrollment of 1 265 at Molefhe Primary School in Kopong, that 10 classes were permanently taught outdoors and that Molefhe Primary School lacked a staffroom.
