Dedicated water tank a solution for Kumakwane
16 Mar 2025
The Ministry of Water and Human Settlement has proposed provision of a dedicated village tank of 500 cubic metres to Kumakwane as a long-term solution to water shortage in the village under the National Development Plan 12. Responding to a question in parliament, Ministry of Water and Human Settlement Assistant Minister, Mr Motsamai Motsamai said the immediate intervention for water supply to Kumakwane to relieve water shortage was through bowsing. Kumakwane, he said had compromised water supply status as high lying areas had intermittent supply, adding that wards that usually experienced water supply outage were; Masetedi, Newtown and Botshabelo which were on higher ground. He said currently Kumakwane was supplied with water through a 160mm diameter pipeline, which got water from Gabane Hill Tank directly into the village network. Additionally, the assistant minister said during water supply interruption, either due to equipment failure, pipe bursts or power supply interruptions from source or from the booster station, the area got prolonged water supply outages as recovery took longer due to lack of a dedicated water tank for the village. Thamaga-Kumakwane MP, Mr Palelo Motaosane had wanted to know if the ministry was aware of the water shortage in Kumakwane and how the ministry intended to solve the problem. ENDS
