New primary school to ease congestion

Construction of a new primary school in Kopong is ongoing as planned and scheduled, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa has told Parliament on Wednesday.
He said the ministry, through Kweneng District Council prioritised construction of additional primary school at Kopong under Transitional Development Plan 11 of 2023/24 to 2024/25 and was approved with other priorities.
He said the construction of new primary school, which commenced August 2024 and scheduled be completed in August 2026, would reduce congestion across Kopong schools. The minister said they anticipated that the current situation at Letsholo Primary School would also be addressed. He said funds permitting, the ministry, through Kweneng District Council would consider expansion of Letsholo Primary School to 22 classrooms under other programs in future.
He said a proposal for construction of a staffroom at Letsholo Primary School was submitted for consideration under National Development Plan 12.
Mr Motshegwa was responding to Lentsweletau/Lephepe MP, Mr Tshenolo Bogatsu who had asked if the minister was aware that nine classes were permanently taught in the open at Letsholo Primary School in Kopong, and futher enquired if the minister would consider expanding the school since there were 17 classrooms and the roll was 960 pupils. He had further asked if the minister would consider building a classroom for ease of doing business. ENDS
