Ministry in process of recruitment
10 Mar 2025
Ministry of Higher Education is in the process of recruiting and filling vacant technical and vocational positions beginning of March up to April, says the Assistant Minister of Higher Education, Mr Justin Hunyepa.
Responding to a question in Parliment, he said the ministry implemented the recruitment process as prescribed by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM). He said for all the entry positions, the ministry utilised Botswana Labour Market Information System (LMIS) as provided by DPSM for job seekers.
Because the ministry prioritised building an entrepreneurship culture amongst vocational and technical training learners, Mr Hunyepa said such emphasise on entrepreneurial skills would ensure that graduates pursued entrepreneurial ventures to drive innovation, job creation and economic growth for the country.
He said he was unaware that PDTVE graduates did not find suitable jobs employment for teaching and lecturing positions in technical colleges and brigades. He said the ministry did not have a centralised job placement system for Post Graduate Diploma in Technical and Vocational Education (PGDTVE) graduates being the equivalent of basic education with teaching graduates qualifications. The assistant minister said Outcome Based Education was an educational approach that focused on achieving specific outcomes or competencies in students. Mr Hunyepa was answering a question from Nkange MP, Mr Motlhaleemang Moalosi who wanted to know if the minister was aware that PGDTVE graduates did not find suitable employment for teaching and lecturing positions in technical colleges, brigades and colleges of education.
In addition, he wanted the minister to further state whether all relevant positions had been filled, the recruitment process that has been in place, which left out graduates on the streets and if there was an established centralised job placement system for PGDTVE graduates. ENDS
